THIS year’s Original Art Sale at TelstraClear Pacific is shaping up to be the city’s art event of 2009 with more than 300 artists exhibiting about 1200 original works.

The unique supermarket-style sale, which runs from June 25-28, differs from other art events in that this year there is a resident artist.
It all kicks off with a gala charity preview evening on the 25th, with proceeds from ticket sales going to Kidz First Children’s Hospital.
The event is an opportunity to buy exhibits before the first sale day. Maori Television’s Matariki Award will be presented at the gala, when there will also be live art by Marcus Winter, music, nibbles and refreshments.
Visitors to the art sale itself will witness art created before their eyes when Marcus, who picked up his style on the streets of Columbia, creates original artworks quickly in front of the audience using only a paintbrush and canvas.
This year sees award-winning Fane Flaws installed as the Original Art Sale’s resident artist. He will be exhibiting and selling his pieces, and will be available during the event to talk to visitors.

Among his accolades are more than 40 awards for directing including best video at the Max TV Music Awards for The Mutton Birds – The Heater, and gold for best humour at the 1993 London International Advertising Awards. Fane now concentrates on being an artist and frequently sells his work at major exhibitions across New Zealand.
