Feedback from Jag Kitchen customers has shown that many people have difficulty finding a carpenter to do renovation work such as removing or building walls. Realising there was a need in the market, Jag decided to employ its own carpenter.
“Around 80 per cent of the kitchens we install go into existing houses,” says Malcolm McLagan. “Many people decide to remove walls and open up the space before they install a new kitchen but often don’t know how to start the process.
“If someone wants to install a new kitchen that involves building work I am happy to send our carpenter, Cain, to discuss the practicality of what they are trying to achieve.”
Malcolm says it is important to check if supporting walls need to be moved because that will require beams or bracing. Council building regulations and permit requirements will also need to be taken into account.
“There is no charge for this initial renovation consultation from which the practicality and likely cost of the project can be determined.
“While customers who want to improve their houses are often daunted by what they see as the enormity of the project, the removal or building of walls can, in fact, often be achieved with a couple of days labour and a few hundred dollars worth of materials.”
Renovation Checklist
Have an expert check if the proposed renovation is practical and cost-effective. Jag Kitchens is happy to look at the building requirements for you and to discuss the likely cost and time frame. If it’s outside our scope we will put you in touch with other suitable professionals.
If the project looks practical have Jag design a kitchen to fit the renovated space. This will give you an exact price for the kitchen. Jag’s 3D computer software allows the designer to virtually remove or build the walls in your proposed renovation so clients can see how it will look in advance.
Determine what other work is required and seek appropriate quotes. This might include anything from electrical, plumbing and flooring to the purchase of new appliances. Jag Kitchens has proven suppliers of these services that can be recommended to you.
Have any necessary plans drawn to submit to council for a building permit. Jag can also put clients in touch with a suitable architect or draughtsman.
Determine a date when the new kitchen is to be installed. The secret to a successful renovation and kitchen installation is in correct planning. Once a kitchen installation date is set Jag Kitchens will help put together a time line that takes into account what needs to be done and when.
Remember the Jag team deals with these details on a daily basis and what may appear daunting to homeowners can in fact be easily managed provided the right tradespeople and advice has been given.
