There’s more than meets the eye at Pakuranga’s Lawn Heat and Leisure Centre. When it comes to beating winter’s cold, dealing with garden and outdoor maintenance, barbecues, spa relaxation and more this super centre has it all.
Established more than 30 years ago, the company has come a long way from when it was first called Lawn Boys and had its home in the former hyperbolic paraboloid building on Pakuranga Rd at the Pakuranga town centre.
It relocated to its present site on Ti Rakau Drive, near Reeves Rd, more than 20 years ago and when Steve Slipper took over ownership in 1996, the company went from strength to strength. For example, he has expanded the product range, doubled the floor space and ensured the on-site workshop offers first rate maintenance and repairs for mowers and power tools
Today Lawn, Heat and Leisure not only specialises in lawn mowers but are leaders in home heating – freestanding wood and gas fireplaces – Hot Spring spa pools, outdoor power equipment, gas barbecues and gas instant hot water systems.
“Having spread our wings into the neighbouring premises we now have our individual product ranges all in distinctive areas,” says Steve. “Our range is now greater that ever and we have increased customer options.”
Importantly, heating and gas expert, Bob Benton provides onsite consultations. Bob will visit customers at home to guide and advise on their heating needs while also helping them determine the best location for their chosen heating system be it gas or a wood burner. He will also suggest which size unit will most effectively and efficiently heat the area in question.
“Many homeowners like the aesthetics and economy of our wood burners, which are approved for clean air in Auckland,” Bob says. “Others prefer flame-effect gas heaters, which have the same ambience as wood burning fires while stylish panel heaters to match modern home décor, are another popular option.”

It is now possible to flue heaters through walls rather than ceilings and Bob says this overcomes problems in two-story homes where access to suitable roof space is limited.
“Of course, gas is clean, easy and efficient and we offer a full installation service on heating appliances as well as on gas-fired Rheem Integrity and Rinnai Infinity instant hot water systems. Our tradesmen and technicians are all qualified and are totally familiar with local code of compliance and safety requirements.”
Bob’s gas expertise extends to gas barbecues another specialty area at Lawn, Heat and Leisure, which amply caters to New Zealand’s love of outdoor entertaining and relaxed living.
Something of a landmark destination, Lawn, Heat and Leisure is known to many passers-by for its “spa pool ladies” who sit outside enduring all kinds of weather. Inside, customers will find a range of superb Hot Spring spa pools offering the ideal combination of relaxation and warmth. Steve’s team will help customers select the most efficient option and ensure maintenance remains as easy as possible.
“And naturally we’re still big on mowers,” Steve says. “We stock Husqvarna ride-ons for large properties and a range of mowers including Husqvarna, Masport and Victa for suburban homes. Power tools include chainsaws, weed-eaters, blower vacs, hedge trimmers and more.”
So when it comes to your lawn, heat and leisure needs give Steve and his team a call – you could be sipping coffee in front of your own blazing fire, enjoying instant hot water in the shower or having the day’s worries massaged away in a bubbling spa.
And if your mower or outdoor power equipment needs servicing, you can rely on the Lawn, Heat and Leisure Centre’s on-site workshop to have it done in no time at all.
