New plants and trees will attract birds and other wildlife, as well as combat erosion, supress weeds and reduce pollution.
By becoming involved volunteers will learn more about the city's environment and help protect it.
The first planting day is on Saturday, 5 June at the Mangemangeroa Reserve in Somerville Road, Howick from 9am to 12 noon.
Volunteers should bring boots, water to drink and a spade if they have one.
