Fingers crossed that there are still plenty of warm days remaining in the next couple of months, so it’s a good idea to make the most of them to spruce up the home exterior with a lick of paint and tend to any other jobs around the property such as clearing gutters and cleaning outdoor furniture.
If the lawn is a bit tired or sparse, autumn is the best time to sow new seed or lay turf so it’ll be lush by the time spring and summer roll around. It’s also a great time to put in new trees or shrubs if the garden needs a makeover.
Indoors, the change in seasons is a timely cue to give all bedding — mattress pads, pillows, duvets, blankets, comforters – a good clean. Curtains can also do with freshening too or it could be time to replace curtains with heavier weight drapes to block draughts and keep the home cosy.
With winter now only a few months away, it’s also the ideal time to think about insulation and heating.
Remember a government subsidy of up to $1300 towards the cost of ceiling and underfloor insulation may be available, as well as up to $500 for clean heating devices such as approved log burners, pellet burners, heat pumps, or flued gas heaters.
